Youth Finance Institute of America is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization that promotes financial literacy amongst youth.

Our mission is to enrich the lives of our youth by providing support in the development of finance-related life skills. We prepare students to become financially stable and independent into adulthood. YFIA is run by individuals who have demonstrated passion for youth development. We are dedicated to promoting financial wellness within our community by pouring our diverse skill sets into this organization.

Social Justice and Financial Education

The impact of financial education encourages financial security and well-being. Educating youth allows them to build financial skills for adulthood, including navigating how to make money decisions and setting life goals. Integrating money topics in our youths’ daily lives, help to take steps forward for financial independence and economic mobility.  YFIA is determined to help our youth prepare to become financially independent and aware of common pitfalls that lead to excessive debt and financial turmoil. Our workshops are exciting and relatable for teenagers who reside in underserved areas.

People of color have been systemically isolated from the resources and opportunities to build generational wealth and continue to be underserved. Financial education is urgently needed, as it is an important component for youth in our local community to help narrow the racial wealth gap. As a result, this helps people in our marginalized communities dismantle oppressive barriers and attain a more equitable financial future.

Money Talk Workshop Series:
YFIA workshop series focuses on basic finance skills tailored for the needs of young adults. Within this format, YFIA has created four workshops that focus on: Budgeting/banking, credit management, first job tips, and financial aid for college. Our content has been developed with the help of The FDIC Money Smart Program, Credit Karma, Travis Credit Union, Operation Hope and Nerdwallet. We deliver these workshops in a format that is easy to understand and short in length. At the end of each individual workshop topic, we play a game that reinforces the materials presented. The game also gives students the opportunity to win substantial prizes such as: tablets, gift cards, and wireless speakers to promote participation and interest in the material.
